Prepare + Prosper tax clinics are closed for the 2021 tax season.

More information about 2022 tax clinics and scheduling appointments will be available in January 2022.

Whether your return is simple or complicated, we can help you. We offer free tax preparation and financial services. With us, free really does mean free.

Services at Prepare + Prosper are provided by a team of 500+ IRS-certified volunteers who are passionate about taxes and finances. All tax returns are doubled checked for accuracy to make sure we’re getting you the maximum refund. We can do federal and Minnesota returns, including property tax refunds for renters and homeowners.

If you’re filing as a single and make less than $35,000 a year—you’re in luck! Grab your documents and find a free tax clinic.

We can help families whose household income is $55,000 or less a year. Make sure to bring your documents and find a free tax clinic!

If you’re self-employed (with no employees) and make $55,000 or less a year, we can help you with your taxes. You’ll need to make an appointment at our virtual self-employment clinic if you made more than $6,000. Call 651-262-2169 to schedule an appointment. Make sure to our list of what to bring for all the documents and forms you will need!

We can’t help you if…

We aren’t able to do your taxes if you have income from driving a cab, rental income, or filed bankruptcy in the tax year you wish to file. There are also other, less common situations that are out of our scope. If you are unsure whether we can do your taxes, please give us a call at 651-287-0187.

In-person drop-off service are available on a limited basis and by appointment only.

  • Set up an appointment by phone or on our website to schedule a time to drop-off your documents at a designated drop-off site.  Drop-off appointments last approximately 30-45 minutes.
  • Complete intake paperwork before drop-off appointments. There will not be enough time or adequate space to fill out the intake materials on-site. This also shortens the in-person time required and increases the safety of everyone involved.
  • Arrive at your in-person drop-off site at your scheduled appointment time.
    • You may need to wait in your car until we call you in for your appointment; at some of our partner sites, we may only have access to a front entry.
    • If you are using public transportation or Metro Mobility please let us know when making your appointment.
  • P+P staff or volunteers will collect, copy, and scan your documents and return the original copies immediately back to you.
  • Your return(s) is then prepared and reviewed.
  • Prepare + Prosper will schedule a check-out appointment or contact you if more information is needed. Make sure you are easily accessible by either phone or email in case we have any questions during tax preparation or need to talk to you during the filing process.
  • We are following the CDC and Minnesota Department of Health guidelines for protecting you and others during the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • When visiting one of our sites, physical distancing and mask wearing are mandatory; we will have masks available if you do not have one.
  • For safety’s sake, please come alone. Bring family members along only for purposes of transportation, mobility, or interpreting.
  • We ask for no eating or drinking at our sites.
  • At our sites, desks, tabletops, pens, etc. will be clean and sanitized for after each use.

Make sure you prepare all of the necessary documents and forms with you so that we can prepare your taxes and get you your maximum refund.

For virtual appointments, please upload all required documents to Dropbox before your scheduled appointment time. For in-person drop-off prep, please bring all completed materials to your appointment.

There’s a separate list for those who are self-employed.

If you don’t have a Social Security number, you will need an ITIN—an Individual Tax Identification Number—to complete your tax return(s). We can help you get one for free!

Skip the phone call. Check out our Q&A for answers to common questions we get.
