50+ years of (tax) fun.

Services at Prepare + Prosper are provided by a team of 300+ IRS-certified volunteers who are passionate about taxes and finances. All tax returns are double-checked for accuracy to make sure we’re getting you the maximum refund. We can do Federal and Minnesota returns, including property tax refunds for renters and homeowners.

How does it work?

Prepare + Prosper offers free tax preparation to families and individuals who meet our income requirements. Our services are by appointment ONLY. You can set your appointment by calling us directly or you can schedule your appointment online. Please keep in mind that since our services are provided by volunteers, we do have a limited capacity.

1. You schedule your appointment

2. Volunteers will help you every step of the way

3. Your taxes get filed

4. You get your refund!

Do you qualify?

We can help families whose household income is $55,000 or less per year. Make sure to bring your documents and find a free tax clinic!

If you’re self-employed (with no employees) and make more than $6,000 of self-employment income but less than $55,000 per year, we can help you with your taxes. See the Self-Employment page to learn more.

We can't help you if...

We are not able to do your taxes if you have rental income, any tax filing requirements involving cryptocurrency, or filed bankruptcy in the tax year you wish to file. There are also other, less common situations that are out of our scope. If you are unsure whether we can do your taxes, please give us a call at 651-287-0187.

Other Options

Are you ready?

Make sure you prepare all of the necessary documents and forms with you so that we can prepare your taxes and get you your maximum refund.

For in-person tax prep, please bring all completed materials to your appointment.

There’s a separate list for those who are self-employed.

Checklist of What to Bring

If you don’t have a Social Security number, you will need an ITIN—an Individual Tax Identification Number—to complete your tax return(s). We can help you get one for free!

Skip the phone call. Check out our Q&A for answers to common questions we get.

What to expect

1) Set up an appointment by phone or on our website to schedule a time to bring your documents to your scheduled appointment.

Appointments last approximately 2-3 hours.

2) Complete intake paperwork before appointments. This will shorten the in-person time needed and increase the safety of everyone involved.

3) Arrive at your scheduled appointment time.

If you are using public transportation or Metro Mobility please let us know when making your appointment.

4) At the end of your appointment, we will go over final results of the tax return, verify information, have you sign and take home a copy of your taxes. Your return will be filed after we collect your signature.
