The work we do at Prepare + Prosper goes beyond filing taxes. We support our community to not only meet their basic needs but to build wealth and plan for their future. The current system isn’t designed to help people who make low to moderate incomes. Structural racism and ableism creates even greater barriers. Through our advocacy work, we strive to dismantle the obstacles to financial security.
Listening to Our Community Comes First
Our first step in doing this work is listening. We gather community feedback through surveys, interviews, testimonies, and conversations so we can accurately represent our community.
This guides our work to shape policy, co-create programs, and deepen community engagement.

Advocacy is in our Roots
Our commitment to financial justice goes back to the founding of the organization. In 1971, social justice-minded accountants created Prepare + Prosper to build a fairer financial system. Today our work continues to align with the founders’ vision for the organization.
Financial hardship crosses political divides. Our work is bipartisan and we serve people of all backgrounds, beliefs and identities without discrimination. We are driven by our commitment to financial empowerment for all.
Leading Boldly
Our Systems Change Department was developed in January 2024 under the leadership of our Executive Director, Suyapa Miranda. Suyapa is passionate about creating equity and has extensive nonprofit experience developing frameworks that root policies, projects and issues in fairness and inclusion.
Through our Systems Change work we bring a deep commitment to community advocacy and work to ensure that our services reach people with diverse needs. We strive to shape policy so that people who have
lower-incomes and those who have been historically exploited are
financially empowered.
